The Dorchester Association for Research into Local History & Archaeology
aims to advance public interest in Local History & Archaeology within the general area of Dorchester and its surroundings. We hold a series of eight lectures on Thursday evenings between September and May, usually at the Dorford Centre, Bridport Road, Dorchester, starting at 7.30pm. Visitors are welcome to attend these talks for a suggested donation of £3.

Field trips to digs, houses, museums and other places of interest to  the Association are also organised – often  at short notice in the case of archaeology on development sites.

Dorchester Civic Society
The Society was founded in 1974 and is independent and non-political. It exists to stimulate people’s interest in the town and its setting; encourage high standards of architecture, urban design and planning; preserve and enhance buildings and areas of historic interest and the town’s landscape setting; and promote civic pride. The Society promotes these aims by acting as a critical friend to the county, district and town councils and by collaborating with like-minded organisations.
